WHY AND HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT REALTOR® FOR YOUR NEEDS
Not all real estate agents are REALTORS®. A REALTOR® is a licensed real estate agent who also has joined the National Association of REALTORS®, usually through a local board or association such as the Salt Lake Board of REALTORS®. To be a REALTOR®, a real estate agent must agree and conform to the strict Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics is a strong advocate for you. It not only sets forth the rules by which we govern ourselves as REALTORS® dealing with the public, but how we treat each other ethically. Members not adhering to the Code of Ethics can lose their membership and status as a REALTOR®. You should ask for a REALTOR® to assist you with your next real estate need.
In order to find the right REALTOR® for you, we recommend the following steps:
- Poll friends and acquaintances for recommendations
- Use the Find-A-Member search page to find likely candidates
- Become acquainted with REALTOR® designations and what they say about the agent's qualifications and specialties
- Talk to agents on your short list about their qualifications and experience with the type of transaction you have in mind
- Use the Directory of Members with Foreign Language Skills if you are more comfortable using a language other than English
- Use the following questions to narrow down your short list
Does the REALTOR®:
- Listen carefully and make every effort to understand your needs?
- Answer questions with obvious knowledge about the market, housing in general, legal and financial issues, and your kind of home?
- Make contact regularly?
- Are you comfortable with this person?
If there are any No answers, you should consider a different agent.
