What is RPAC?

RPAC oversees REALTOR® political fund raising programs. It collects money into one political fund and then, guided by a strict formula, splits the money between URPAC, which supports state candidates, BORPAC (Board of REALTORS® Political Action Committee), which supports local candidates, and IPAC, which supports issues and grassroots political activities. The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® uses its funds to support federal candidates and issues, while RPAC gives REALTORS® a political voice in Utah. Donating to RPAC ensures that there will be funding to support REALTOR® issues in the Legislature. We support issues in various ways, including a non-partisan support of candidates with a history of voting for REALTORS®, and fighting bills that would have a negative impact on the real estate industry. For more detailed information on RPAC, please visit the UAR website.

Why should I contribute to RPAC?

Contribute to RPAC in order to protect your rights and interests as a REALTOR®. RPAC works for you. It is REALTOR® money, managed by REALTORS®, in order to protect REALTOR® issues. Don't leave your future success to others. Get involved! Contributions to RPAC are voluntary and used for political purposes. RPAC will receive 80% of the funds raised by RPAC. Of that amount, 30% will be sent to the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® Political Action Committee to be used to support Federal candidates (which is charged against your limits under 2 U.S.C.441a) and Federal grassroots political activities. The local BORPACS will receive 20%. IPAC will receive 20% of funds raised by RPAC. Of that amount, 60% will be allocated for state level issue campaigns and 40% will be allocated to local issue campaigns. Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions for Federal income tax purposes.More reasons to invest in REALTORS® interests...Laws and regulations shape the way you do business. Every day, elected officials make decisions that could determine your profits! You're not alone... so why act alone? You're part of the REALTOR® family: 750,000 strong nationally, 7,800 strong in Utah, and 4,700 strong in Salt Lake County. If REALTORS® pool their resources, they can speak with authority on major real estate issues. The RPAC is a proven way to get YOUR views across to public officials. RPAC promotes your views on issues and supports candidates who will represent REALTOR® interests. REALTORS® at the local, state, and national levels work hard to make the right contribution decisions.A little goes a long way with RPAC. Private citizens can contribute to any candidate or issue. But RPAC offers another way -- a more powerful way -- to invest in your future through group effort and group political contributions.

What has RPAC done for me lately?

RPAC dollars have ensured that REALTORS® stay in business with these 3 bills:Exclusive Brokerage Agreements (SB56)This bill requires that when entering into an exclusive brokerage agreement a real estate licensee must do the following. 1. Present offers, 2. Present counter offers, 3. Answer questions for their client throughout the process. Many of our members are frustrated when taking a buyer to a listed property are forced to work directly with the seller who is completely without representation.Business License (HB283)This bill makes it clear that cities may not require agents to have a business license. It also makes it clear that brokers need only have a business license in their primary place of business. A growing trend has been that cities attempt to assess business licenses to all agents in a brokerage. This bill puts a stop to that process. It also stops the process of requiring a business license in every city where an agent has a listing.Local Land Use Development and Management Amendments (SB60)This bill does many positive things for development and real estate. Perhaps the most exciting piece of this bill is that cities will now be required to issue re-build letters on down-zoned property at the time of sale. Many of our members have been frustrated when a deal cannot be closed because a city will not issue a rebuild letter and therefore financing and insurance are an impossibility.
