New CE Course Touts REALTOR® Advocacy
Next month, the Salt Lake Board will host the first session of a newly-approved CE Course entitled “How Utah Consumers Benefit from REALTOR® Public Policy Efforts”. The main purpose of the course is to enable REALTORS® to educate their clients about how they benefit from REALTOR® advocacy efforts. We see this as another tool for REALTORS® to demonstrate their value to their clients. Most Utah consumers don’t understand how much money they save on real estate transactions compared to buyers and sellers in other states. We hope all SLBR members will take advantage of this opportunity to get valuable CE credit while learning about many of the issues impact the housing industry that REALTORS and their clients need to be aware of.
Thanks to the public policy efforts of REALTORS® at every level of government, Utah buyers and sellers save thousands of dollars on every transaction. This CE course outlines the numerous ways the REALTOR® Family (the National Association of REALTORS®, Utah Association of REALTORS®, and local boards such as the Salt Lake Board of REALTORS®) helps keep homeownership affordable—from preserving the mortgage interest deduction, avoiding a real estate transfer taxes and private transfer fees, resisting a sales tax on services, promoting real estate-friendly tax policy, and generally keeping transactions unencumbered from unnecessary fees and expenses.
In addition, the course outlines how REALTORS® advocacy efforts works to promote affordable housing, protect private property rights, strengthen the economy and housing market, and advocate for policies that enhance our quality of life. The class also identifies issues at the federal, state, and local level that may negatively impact prospective buyers and sellers. Finally, the course offers examples of ways REALTORS® can educate their clients, as well as participate in these advocacy efforts.
The course was approved by the Division of Real Estate for 3 hours of CE credit and will be taught by REALTORS® with extensive experience in leadership and advocacy in the real estate and/or political communities. Class attendees will have the option to donate their $15 course fee to as a voluntary RPAC contribution for 2011.
“We are very excited to be able to offer this course and hopefully raise awareness among our SLBR members about our advocacy efforts and their benefit to our clients.”
Deanna Dipo
