Local Advocacy Agenda

The Salt Lake Board of REALTORS® advocates for you and your business interests with county and city governments on the following issues:

Improvement of REALTOR® work environment

  • Reasonable sign ordinances that allow for adequate marketing of property, including directional and open house signage.
  • Reasonable door-to-door solicitation ordinances that allow state-licensed REALTORS® to operate without additional licensing.
  • Avoidance of additional business licensing ordinances above and beyond those required by the state.
  • Avoidance of unnecessary, costly, and burdensome regulation of small business.

Promotion of Home Ownership

  • Reasonable impact fees, permit fees, and other development fees that represent actual costs and are compliant with state law.
  • Sufficient affordable housing to support all income levels and necessary workforce.
  • Appropriate variety of housing types that serve all demographics.

Protection of Private Property Rights

  • Avoidance of zoning decisions and city ordinances that financially injure property owners.
  • Rare, careful, and fair use of eminent domain and exactions.
  • Promotion of a fair, smooth, and timely planning and administrative process.
  • Obedience of state law regarding due process, conditional uses, ordinance administration, etc.
  • Encouragement of healthy, natural redevelopment of aging neighborhoods.

Enhanced quality of life for REALTORS® and their clients

  • Balanced land use, including a good mix of residential, commercial, job centers, parks, mixed uses, etc.
  • Sufficient transportation infrastructure.
  • An equitable and stable property tax system.
  • A vibrant economy through free market principles and a strong housing market.
