Without Federal Tax Credit Home Sales in SL County Fall

Sales of existing homes in Salt Lake County fell 36 percent in July, making it the lowest sales tally for a July since the Salt Lake Board of REALTORS started keeping electronic records in 1996. In July there were 709 homes and condos sold, down from 1,112 sales in July 2009.

In an article in the Salt Lake Tribune, Bill Heiner, president of the Salt Lake Board of REALTORS, said the steep drop reflected the April 30 expiration of the federal tax credit. "We anticipate a couple of more months of slower sales," Heiner said in the story.

From January through July, home sales in Salt Lake County increased 6 percent compared to the same seven-month period in 2009.

The median price of all residential properties sold in July actually increased to $230,000, up 5 percent compared to a median value of $220,000 in July 2009.
