2012 Housing Summit to Focus on Life After Foreclosure
05/03/2012

The Salt Lake Board of Realtors announced today it has partnered with the Utah Housing Coalition to hold the 2012 Salt Lake Housing Summit on Monday, May 7 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Realtor Campus in Sandy (230 W. Towne Ridge Parkway).

A panel discussion of leading housing experts will address vital ideas on reviving homeownership including topics on new grant programs and loan modifications. In addition, panelists will discuss the $25 billion foreclosure settlement reached earlier this year by federal and state officials with mortgage servicers.

Panelists include: John Swallow, chief deputy attorney general for the state of Utah; Deon Spilker, director of mortgage banking for Utah Housing Corp.; Paxton Guymon, an attorney specializing in the foreclosure process; and Kristin Johnson, director of housing for Cornerstone Financial. Curtis Bullock, CEO of the Salt Lake Board of Realtors, will be the panel’s moderator.

“Foreclosures hurt everyone,” said Amanda Mendenhall, a Realtor with RE/MAX Associates and one of the summit organizers. “We are going through a market we have never experienced before. Realtors should be the first resource when a home owner is facing a distressed situation. Our job isn’t just to sell homes, but to keep families in their homes. It’s our responsibility to provide home owners with factual information so that they can make the best decisions for their families.”
